HOW TO SURRENDER AND SURVIVE
A SENTENCE OF IMPRISONMENT
Written by a former attorney
who served time in a
Federal Prison
For the first time in history, One in 100 Americans are behind bars in this country.
Chances are good that you,
or someone you know,
will need this book,
if not today,
then someday.
If you, or someone you love, has been sentenced to imprisonment in a Federal Prison,
you need to read this book.
This book is intended for use by both attorneys and defendants. While there are many so called “experts”, published articles, and information available on the Internet, no one has described this process from the viewpoint of a person who actually served time in a federal prison. As both a former criminal attorney and inmate, I can guide you through the process of obtaining the least severe sentence and, if you are sentenced to prison, help you to achieve the shortest amount of time under the most favorable conditions. This book will walk you through the process of pleading guilty, surrendering to prison, the first month of adjustment, what you have to do to secure the earliest release date, how to complete half-way house confinement, and supervised release, and how to live with financial commitments such as fines and restitution.
Remember, you are not alone. One in a hundred Americans are currently in jail serving sentences. This is the highest number throughout the world, higher than China, which as four times our population. Per capita, more individuals are serving time in jail in America than in Europe, Russia, Albania, Lithuania, Poland, Azerbaijan and Turkey combined. If you are African American, the figure rises to one in 41. The United States has less than 5% of the world’s population but 25% of the total number of incarcerated individuals. We have become a “prison nation”.
So, there is no need to feel stigmatized and alone. You will survive. You may be bored but you will be safe. Adjustment is difficult but it gets better very quickly.
This book will help you to understand the prison system and become empowered by that knowledge. The more you know about what to expect, the more prepared you will be. Your anxiety will decrease and you will feel emotionally stronger. In short, the "devil you fear” is far worse than the devil you will come to know. Learn what to expect and take charge of your future. This book will help by guiding you through the process.
